John Carroll University
Young Writers Workshop
While Power of the Pen is not affiliated with the Young Writers Workshop, we are pleased to make Power of the Pen writers aware of this opportunity.
The John Carroll Young Writers Workshop (for students entering grades 8–12) will take place on July 24-28, 2023, on the campus of John Carroll University, directed by award-winning creative writing faculty from John Carroll University. This year, the Young Writers Workshop is offering both day camp and overnight options.
Students participate in a rigorous and inspiring program that provides an introduction to the art and craft of poetry and short fiction. In morning and afternoon sessions, students study with acclaimed writers, engaging in writing-intensive exercises designed to address the elements of craft. They participate in lively workshop sessions in which they discuss each other’s work to spur revision. Over the week, students have individual conferences with Dr. Philip Metres about their writing, and then submit writing for the YWW anthology, published on the final day of the camp. Families are welcome to attend the final reception and reading.
Cost of the day camp option is $350 for those who register by April 1 and $380 for those who register by June 1.
Cost of the overnight option is $950 for those who register by April 1 and $980 for those who register by June 1.
See the flyer for details on how to register.
