Ohio’s Original Interscholastic Creative Writing Program for Middle Schools

Scenes From the Season

About 2,700 young authors wrote more than 12,000 pieces of creative writing during the 2019-2020 season. These 7th and 8th graders demonstrated a strong commitment to the craft of writing as they practiced for tournaments throughout the season. When the pandemic caused shutdowns in March 2020, we continued our regional season online, with students writing from home. Here's a look at just a few moments from 2019-2020.

Congratulations, State Award Winners!

Of the thousands of middle school students who write with Power of the Pen each year, the winners of the state awards have achieved an extraordinary level of excellence. Power of the Pen annually awards State honors to young authors whose writing stands out for its powerful connection with readers. Visit our YouTube Channel to see author Margaret Peterson Haddix, poet George Bilgere, television writer Sage Boggs, and others honor the 2020 winners.
