We’re excited to bring a state tournament to Power of the Pen’s young writers even during the pandemic. This year’s tournament, hosted virtually by Otterbein University, will feature a poetry contest for state qualifiers, a Zoom appearance by author Jack Gantos, information about ordering his books, and online T-shirt sales. More details will be published as they are available.
The competition itself will take place on Saturday, May 15. Because the tournament will be held online, it will include three 40-minute rounds, just like district and regional tournaments. The schedule is:
Round 1 - 9 to 9:40 a.m.
Round 2 - 9:55 to 10:35 a.m.
Round 3 - 10:50 to 11:30 a.m.
Preparing to Register
The cost is $50 for each participating student writer. Registration is open April 5 through April 30. Payment must be received by Power of the Pen by May 7.
Teams are required to provide one judge for each grade level for which they have participating qualifiers. There is no option to hire judges.
The participating school should register its writers and judges. Parents may not register students. The school can pay with a credit card online or be invoiced for the team’s participation. Please have your plans finalized and a commitment from your school for how to pay before registering.
